Last week saw the fash pack swap the stylish streets of New York for our capital city to welcome the biggest event in our fashion calendars...London Fashion Week 2018 of course! As every editor, blogger and buyer sat wide-eyed at the catwalk shows, eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated collections from the likes of Burberry, Victoria Beckham and Alexa Chung, exciting things were happening off the runway too. Proving that you don’t need to be positioned on the FROW at London Fashion Week to gain some serious fashion inspiration for the new season, the streets of London turned into a catwalk themselves with fashion enthusiasts giving us the heads up on the key autumn winter 2018 fashion trends.
From timeless checks to colourful animal print to smart tailoring and oversized knits, it's no suprise that everyone's attention turned from the catwalk to the pavement with street style that was the epitome of insta-worthy. Showing us how to wear this season's key fashion trends and providing us with fashion knowledge without the need to attend a catwalk show, these fashionistas had us double tapping every pic and adding a million items to our autumn winter fashion wishlist.
London Fashion Week is no longer just about the catwalk shows with the attendees making just as big of a fashion impact. So whilst the fashion elite make their way over to Milan (erm, we're totally not jealous...), we've rounded up our favourite street style looks of LFW which showcase the key fashion trends for autumn winter 2018. Let's just say, your new season wardrobe is about to get exciting...
Potentially the biggest fashion trend of the year let alone the season, the streets of London were covered in animal print. The fashion trend that makes making an entrance actually a thing, we're no longer just referring to those classic leopard print designs but we're talking sassy snake skin and bold zebra styles too. Oh, and let's not forget crocodile! Basically, if it's animal print then we want it. From bold animal print co-ords to colourful animal print dresses, at London Fashion Week it was all about standing out. It's become a fact that your autumn winter wardrobe isn't complete without animal print and you can't argue with that...
No longer just for the boardroom, satorial staples have had a modern update with trouser suits and blazers becoming key pieces for autumn winter 2018. Putting a playful twist on the powerful piece, the street style of LFW saw blazers covered in standout stripes and check designs and embellished with statement button detailing. A versatile fashion trend, smart met casual when tailoring was teamed with trainers whilst elsewhere, things got smartly structured with shoulder pads.
No longer just a practical piece to keep warm in, the street style at LFW proves that knitwear has become a serious fashion trend. Gone are the days of boring knits because relaxed oversized styles, turtle neck designs and colourful chunky cable knits are here. Seen at LFW tucked into midi skirts, layered on top of cyling shorts and stylishly thrown on with jeans, knitwear was taking centre stage on all of London's pavements. Whether it's a bold coloured jumper or an oversized maxi cardigan, it's all about making a statement with your knitwear for autumn winter 2018.
London Fashion Week street style proved that checks aren't going anywhere soon. From dresses to jackets to skirts and trousers, you name it, checks were on it. It may scream 90s Clueless but there's nothing clueless about this fashion trend. No longer just your classic check design, LFW saw checks with a twist. From colourful check finishes to contrasting check designs, check pinafores were being layered over chunky knits for retro vibes, oversized check blazers were flung on with trainers to combine smart with casual and checks were clashed with animal print for serious style statements. To sum it up, you need to check out checks this season.
Adding an autumnal touch to the streets of London, warm rusts and mustards were apparent at LFW. Some fashion influencers even went as far as wearing both and we can't get enough of it. Think the shades of those crisp autumn leaves...burnt oranges, rich browns and deep burgundy tones. The streets of London were awash with rust coloured blazers, chunky mustard knits and chocolate brown coats so ditch the bright summery shades and give your new season wardrobe an autumnal makeover with this dreamy colour palette.
Thanks to us, you don't even need to attend London Fashion Week to get your dose of fashion inspo!
